Marathon lake and village

Marathon, a highly historical area known worldwide for its battle and the hero Pheidippides, the first marathon runner of all times.

Our meeting point this time is the Olympic Stadium of Athens “Spyros Louis”, named after the first modern Olympic marathon gold medalist in 1896. Our ride will bring us through the green northern suburbs of Athens to Marathon town, a highly historical area worldwide for its battle and the hero Pheidippides, a herald sent from Marathon to Athens to announce the victory and actually was the first marathon runner of all times.

With smooth gradients we will easily reach the Marathon Lake, formed from the construction of the Marathon dam, an important water supply reservoir for the city of Athens, since 1931. You will love our way down to the small town, ideal for road bikes, with safe turns and splendid view.

Refueling while our guide briefly shares information about the area and we are off again for an inspiring uphill and past the small town of Stamata in the country side, we will join the main avenue that connects the Athenian northern suburbs down to the centre.
