Dionyssos, an area rich in myths and history.
Our meeting point is the Olympic Stadium of Athens that hosted the 25th modern Olympic Games revived in 1896 in Greece. Our ride through green suburbs of Athens to Dionyssos follows the main road from northern residential areas to the foot of Mount Penteli with enjoyable uphills and downhills of mild gradients. Dionyssos is an area rich in myths and history, birthtown of Thespis, the inventor of ancient Greek drama (tragedy) and a place where archaeological excavations have brought to light ruins of ancient temples.
Refueling and some tourist information by our guide during a short stop after Dionyssos. Then we take a 5km uphill to Penteli, famous for its marble used for the construction of buildings on the Acropolis of Athens.
The road starts off with a couple of steep turns but continues smoothly around the mountain offering nice views both to Attica basin (central plain of Attica) and to Evia island, one of the largest in the Mediterranean. The way down back to the city will be easy and fast.
