Τhe national park of Parnitha is nowadays a protected habitat for many animal and plant species.
We hit off from the Olympic village in Acharnes at the foot of Mount Parnitha, built to house the 17.000 athletes who participated in the 25th modern Olympic – after their inauguration in Greece in 1896 – and the 12th Summer Paralympic games in Athens in 2004.
Past the entrance of the cable car station, we start off our climb, ideal for road bike, with ample turns and mild gradients into the national park of Parnitha – its name dates back to time immemorial in the roots of the indo-european languages – nowadays a protected habitat for many animal and plant species. Short stops for refueling and enjoying the splendid views to the city, but also to the Saronic gulf and islands and to the other three mountains embracing the Attica plain.
